What are some good preformance upgrade to do for a land rover discovery 1?

i'm trying to find out what are some good engine preformance parts to buy for 98 land rover disco 1

my rover is a bit slugish on the hills so i need to find a way to give some more power! turbochargers, cam upgrades whatever.|||First off buy a second Land Rover so you will have an adequate parts supply. These vehicles do not lend themselves to very many high performance upgrades. Things will fall apart rapidly on them.

Best bang for buck is an engine swap to a domestic American made v-8. Parts are more readily available and easier to upgrade.|||Trade it in on a Ford 4 wheel drive F-150.....

What about the Off-Road performance? Am I making a good idea?|||They are wonderful off road. Maybe the most capable car you can buy.

What year Land Rover/Range Rover should i get if i'm going to get one?

My Fiancee and i are looking for a land rover discovery or Range Rover for our new SUV and we've hear there are problems with some models. Any information on which year and model is the best? any suggestions for other affordable and reliable SUV's other than Land Rover?|||C7S, find something else to do.

If I were going to get a Discovery Series I, I'd get either a 1994 or a 1999.

Discovery Series II, I'd go with a 2004.

If I wanted a Range Rover, I'd go with a 1988 or a 1995 SWB.

They don't have a lot of problems, they simply require actual maintenance. People don't do it because they are ignorant and lazy, end of story. There are only two real issues that Rovers have.

One is the occasional fault in the ABS system, which doesn't really affect anything at all other than the idiot light on the dashboard. People generally just ignore it, as the braking performance is unaffected aside from the occasional lack of ABS. This occurs on the Discovery II from 1999-2004. Generally, by the time it happens, you would have been through two normal cars, though, so people need to get over it.

The other issue is the air suspension on the P38 model Range Rovers. It will leak eventually. Just replace the air springs with coil springs, and you are done. The coil springs come in a kit that any idiot with a Sears nearby can install in a couple of hours or so. Again, by the time this happens, any other vehicle would be a basket case, so it is absolutely nothing to worry about.

People buy a 12 year old Range Rover with 170,000 miles on it and complain when they need to replace the factory installed shocks and springs. If you bought a Chevrolet like that...

My Discovery II has been on almost every major trail in America, with possibly weeks of cumulative idle time. It has been bashed on rocks, drowned, actually raced a couple of times, and really put through the ringer. A stunt driving scene for a movie was filmed with a car in tow on a trailer behind it. I've pulled tractors out of muddy ravines with it, and I've provided support and relief DURING hurricanes with it, pulling many cars and their drivers out of deep water. During my time overseas, it has spent months sitting in wait for my return.

The thing is still my daily driver. It still does all this stuff. It still does it just like I bought it yesterday. If the thing wants to flash an ABS idiot light at me on occasion, it has earned it.

You cannot use any other vehicle like this. Here is the best part. I know countless others that use their Rovers in the same manner. One day, they are filming a documentary a weeks drive into the bush. Another day, they are just grabbing milk from the grocery store.

If you want a Land Rover, just go get one. Like anything, make sure it has been maintained properly.|||Sorry, but no matter what year you get, it will break down every month.

Requires premium fuel. Averages 15mpg.

Why did NASA decide on one big rover instead of 2 smaller ones?

The Mars Science Lab is $1.2 billion and climbing while the MER's were about $400M each and provided coverage in two locations. Why did NASA choose to do one big rover instead of two smaller ones (that probably could have stayed on schedule) ?|||They already have the two there, like you said? They probably want to save money, I mean they COULD build two smaller, less sophisticaed ones, but this one will be like a... SUPER ROVER... heh, and I don't really think they need many rovers on mars, at least for now.|||I think it's because they needed to have one that could rove further and be independent of solar power (it will have an RTG). They probably just couldn't afford two of them.|||in addition to the above points - it's also cheaper to have one than two because it does not take multiple launches and space craft to get them there. One big rover also allows you to specialize the mission or have a rover that's more multifunctional|||Probably a better question is why they launched two MERs in 2003, rather than one. They did because they could. They had built two rovers and had two rockets capable of launching them. Because they'd had such bad luck with Mars exploration, they decided to go with redundancy. You can read all about it in Steve Squyres' book, Roving Mars.

What type of dash kit or wire harness do i need to install a sony radio in a 2003 land rover discovery?

I have a factory radio and i want to install an aftermarket sony radio in a 2003 land rover discovery.|||Well, here is a question for you... What does the factory radio say on the front of it as a manufacture? (ie: Harman Kardon) If you have the "premium" factory radio in it, then you will have to "hard wire" the aftermarket Sony radio. As far as I know of, AI (American International) does not make a wire harness for any of the Land Rover, and it looks like neither does Metra. How do i fix an overheating rover?

My rover 100 overheats immeditaly after driving for about 5 minutes. There is oil in the water tank and it bubbles alot. The heating in the car is always cold. Is this a serious problem or one to fix at home?|||Either a cracked head, or a bad head gasket. If you have the tools and a repair book you could do it at home in about 6-9 hours. If your intimidated by mechanical object, send it to a shop. Stop driving it while its in this state of repair or you could ruin the entire motor!|||I could be the head gasket|||Hopefully you only have a bad headgsket so far! Depending on how long you drove it, and how hot it got, the head could be warped, cracked, or "junk"!

The bubbles are (from) the compression leaking through into the water jacket, - which pushes all the water out! Running engine without much (or any) water in it makes things get mighty hot mighty fast! If there is water left, and it "runs" back down in excessively hot engine, it can crack cast iron heads! If an aluminum head gets excessively hot, it gets warped! Beware NEVER pour cold water down the radiator of a car that has just been boiling, when it hits the engine parts, it can crack head (and sometimes even the block), -- it can also boil almost instantly, and shoot out a gueiser of boiling water on you and bystanders!

Changing a headgasket is not that big a problem, - if you have any mechanical knowledge, but you need to check the head and the block over very carefully for damage, and the head has to be checked for warpage! If it has any "hump"in it, the new headgsket won't be any better then the one you have now! Also if the head got "really hot", you better have the valve guides and the valve seats checked, as they could come apart after you put the engine togehther. If they drop down into the combustion chamber, and the pistons hit these parts, - the engine "ends" right then and there!

Why are Dogs generally called Rover and Fido?

Where do these names come from?

Do you have a dog called either Rover or Fido?|||Fido was the name of Abraham Lincoln's dog.

Also Fido is Latin for I'm faithful.

Makes sense to be popular then right?

I'm not sure about Rover. Never heard anything about it, hopefully someone will explain.|||Rover, because dogs tend to roam, and Fido, which means I am faithful in Latin, were pupular once but now human names are the trend, with Max the top name for boy dogs and Maggie tops for girls.

The only names on the Top 40 that don't sound like human names are Buddy, Buster, Sparky and Princess.

Maybe the change is because we tend to humanize dogs more than our parents and grandparents did.

I've never had a dog named Rover or Fido but in a few years, these names will probably seem campy and cute|||Fido from the Latin 'fides'; faithful.

Rover I haven't heard, I assume it relates to the amount of ground a dog can cover. Dalmatians used to be called 'carriage dogs' because they could (and did) run alongside carriages for miles.

And I never met a dog called Rover, but my granddad (a Latin scholar) had a dog called Fido.|||Never met a dog called Fido.

Do no someone who has a Rover. (He started off as Max), But as soon as he knew the difference between boys and girls, he was off "roving" around anytime a ****** in their area came in season. They have now had him neutered but he is used to the name now.

I've never met a dog named this either. Head to a park, and call out "Rover!" or "Fido!", and you're not likely to see any dogs come running. But call out "Max!" or "Jessie!" and get ready for a stampede. Yes, Rover, Fido, Spot and Patch are well and truly out of fashion as dogs' names. Their place has been taken by names that sound very similar to the ones we're giving our children. Max, Sam, Jack, Jake, Jessie, Molly, Chloe and Lucy: these could be toddlers in a playgroup or dogs in a kennel. Is it still possible to get spares for Rover cars?

I have just bought a Rover 45 and am a little worried that i will not be able to buy spares for it should anything go wrong. Do you know of anywhere that manufactures Rover parts?|||Yes.

X-Part still exists, and still supplies spare parts for Rover cars.

Seeing as Rover is bust, would it cost a lot to get parts for a rover metro if broken down?

Just a thought, the rover metro is quite old and I was wondering are parts for that car, still being made? Also is it a good car for a first car?|||Hi

Despite all the negative answers here the Rover Metro is not a bad first car as long as you get the one you have your eye on checked out by someone who knows cars. They were very prone to rust which would be the biggest worry also the later petrol models ( 100 114 etc) had the rover k series engines of either 8 or 16 valve which were good but prone to cylinder head gasket failure if not maintained properly. The 115D diesel version is good as it uses a proven Peugeot engine. Trim levels were best in the range topping models but safety is poor as this is basically a face lifted 1970's design car. Cheap and cheerful with little or no street cred but reliable enough if well maintained and usually bought new by older people so low mileage well cared for examples can still be found. Spares are still plentiful as the k series engines are used across the rover range. Well, any local paint shop for autos can do the job for you.

There is nothing special about it. It just takes 4 colors of paint and the money to pay for the paint job.

Maybe it will cost you around $500 to do this.

I just saw a pickup truck yesterday for sale parked on the streets of my town that was all painted in camo colors. It is common to see jeeps and trucks painted in camo colors by those who can afford to pay for the pain job.

Are you "sure" you want to do it? You will probably have a hard time selling the Land Rover when you do if it is painted in camo. For how many people want a camo painted vehicle?

How much is a monthly payment for a Range Rover ? year- 2007 to 2009 . ?

well im interested in getting a Range Rover in the next 2 years and i wanted to know how much would it cost monthly ? Used or New ?

and is it a smart idea to buy a used one ?

im planning on making $800-900 a week . do you think ill be able to afford the monthly payments ?

How many miles/years is it between cam belt changes on a 1999 (V) Rover 220 TDi?

What tool is needed to tighten the valve cover on my 1995 Land Rover Discovery?

I have a 95 Land Rover Discovery Series I and its leaking oil because the valve cover is not on tight. We are trying to tighten it up but none of his tools fit correctly. Today I bought a 7 piece Torx Socket Set and this did not work either. He is quite handy, but we dont know the name of the tool needed to tighten this up. Thanks!|||If it is leaking, tightening it won't cure your problem, and if it does, it won't cure it for long. Its not justr a simple tighten it on up kind of thing with those. How Many Keys Should Come With My Rover 25?

No key master existed...if you loose a key you can go in an iron mongery and make another one or try with a discovery 200's key.

the trouble is on the remote control which commands the immobilizer.... you need a rover assistance and the other control because the test book is required to let the car recognize the new one.

the immobilizer has a manual code ( 4 numbers) that you should have because is usefull to make the car go when the remote control doesn't work ..... |||at the very least you should have the master key. my last car only had the master key because it was 2nd hand, but i got an extra key done just incase i lost the main key. for my new car i got the master key and an extra key to go with it.|||If car is new should have 2 keys plus master key{usually red}. I have a problem with my 1997 Rover 214, what could be wrong?

Hi, i have a 1997 Rover 214. It stalls when changing gear, what could be the problem? Would it cost much sort out? I hope someone out there can help me, many thanks!|||Does the car idle/tickover normally after you first start it up?

Is the brake pedal hard when you depress it? It could be a few things, but I would say the main cause is idle speed. It could even be that the cambelt has jumped a couple of teeth and has caused the timing to be out,but normally if this occurs you will suffer valve damage.Check the brake servo hose, and the distributor vacum advance and retard hose, small black pipe from distributor to inlet manifold.|||It might be the distributor.|||Well when you're changing gears one thing that happens is that your revs drop down as soon as you depress the clutch, so it could be something related to that, i.e. the engine idling speed is not enough or something wrong with the distributor or the spark plugs, etc. Should be too difficult and/or expensive to sort out.|||CLUTCH problem full stop. Replace with a new full clutch system and you will be fine.|||Sounds as if the idle mixture is too weak. If the car has a carburetter then it will need adjusting. The stalling will be nothing to do with the ignition unless you have a very bad misfire on one or more cylinders that the engine copes with at higher speeds.

Is there any possibility that i can install a 1996 Range Rover Vogue motor in my 1995 Vogue Classic?

So i have a 1995 range rover vogue classic but its engine is in bad condition and low on power. Is it possible to install a more powerful engine like the 1996 vogue engine or any other engine to up the power?

if not, why?|||If you mean the V8, then yes, but you will need all the relevant wiring and ignition modules/ECUs. The 3.9 was the predecessor to the 4.2 and 4.6 engines, so bolting up should be no issue, but you may find differences in the torque converter in automatic transmission, or the clutch with a manual. Exhaust manifolds/headers may have different fittings/angles/profiles.... you may find your originals fit here... check the depth of the front timing cover... ancillary pulleys might stick out further on the later engine, so you may need to get the measuring tape out before committing. The P38 shared little in common with the "classic" RR, but the engine was one of the things that it did.|||With Land rovers, almost anything can be fitted to almost anything else. SO a V8 to V8 swap will work physically but as mentioned before the electronics may make it a costly change of the ECU etc is dfifferent. Unless you have a great deal on the 96 engine with all the electronics, look for something that will not need so much messing about. Unless you like the challenge of autoelectronics!|||should not be any problem

What is the Cubic Inch of a Range Rover Engine?

Since Range Rover engines a very unreliable i was going to switch it out with a Ford Engine, or could you suggest another brand thats reliable and i can easily find a new engine? Also how much would getting them switched out cost, and how much can a new range rover engine sell for, with under 2k miles?|||Switching out an engine has a lot more involved than just matching the cubic inch displacement.

Cost involved? Around 5000-6000, as a starting price.

If you want a replacement, new engine....$10,000. Easily.|||Also the displacement of an engine, does not equal how big the block is

even so you can't just bolt a ford engine into a Range Rover, you will need to do lots of fabrication, probably get a whole new trans, wire it up properly, its no easy task. Cash customers are NOT the preferred buyers and will not see a significant price advantage compared to a customer with good credit. We prefer a good creit score to a cash customer all day.

Why?

Well a cash customer is less likley to buy warranties, maintenance packages, LoJack, etc, We get profit from all of those things. We also get profit from the bank contract itself. When you pay cash, you are effectively shutting down several opportunities for a dealer to make profit.

This thinking goes back to the old days when banks took weeks, sometimes months, to fund a deal. We would send in a contract then have to wait for the bank to cut a check and send it to us. Back then, cash spoke loudly. Today, a customer with a strong credit score can finance a car, ans we get our money within a couple of days. Sometimes its a matter of hours. So the old myth of cash making our eyes light up like a cartoon character are over.

She will get the same price as a finance customer, maybe end up paying more.

DG.|||Go to your local auto parts store. They sell aftermarket kits for that. These generally are universal-one size fit all deals. it probably will have two wires coming out of it, one will go to the fuse box-run it to a fuse, the other you will need to ground to a metal part of the car somewhere. Then mount the unit where you think is best for you. Its really very simple, you cant mess anything up or get shocked as its only 12 volts. How can i figure out the mileage of rover metro?

hi im thinking of driving up to bristol airport as it will cost 60 pound each for me and my boyfriend to go on the train. i would like to figure out roughly how much it would cost tho. i have a rover metro 3door 1.1 1997 car and its 110 miles and petrol is 0.90 a litre

but i dont know my cars mpg any one help on how i can work this out?|||It depends how you drive, the road and traffic conditions, etc., but my 1991 Rover Metro 1.1 tended to give 45.5mpg (about 10 miles per litre) on a long journey. If yours can match that, you will need 11 litres for 110 miles, or about 拢10.

Remember to include the cost of travel both ways, and also of parking at the airport, before deciding whether to go by train or car.|||If you don't know your cars miles per gallon (or kilometers per litre; you don't know anything You need to know that to make a calculation. and the fuel is in Liters.

It also depends on the roads, wind conditions, tire inflation, condition of the vehicle etc.

Train is usually cheaper. Don't ask the yanks. They use the smaller US gallon. Not imperial gallons(which are bigger).|||your metro gets 45 miles per gallon as per the manufacturer specifications (type in miles per gallon metro) in the search engine.

|||fx = P cos(theta); where P = 21 N and theta = 37 deg, fx is the pull forward.

fy = P sin(theta) is the pull up off the ground. You can do the math.

This is just trigonometry, very little physics. P is a vector; it has both magnitude (21 N) and direction (37 deg). That means it can be broken into its two component vectors fx and fy.

Note that P^2 = fx^2 + fy^2 = (P cos(theta))^2 + (P sin(theta))^2 = P^2 (cos(theta)^2 + sin(theta)^2) = P^2; so that 1 = sin(theta)^2 + cos(theta)^2 which is a trig identify you should memorize.

How many g did the Rover lander survive on arrival at Mars?

It had 4 airbags with 6 lobes each to absorb the impact.

THe gravity on Mars is 38% of that on Earth|||The max acceleration experienced by Mars Exploration Rovers is about 8 "g" (Earth "g") according to this NASA report.

For a space system design course we had to design a mission to Saturn's moon Titan(and more!). The Lander had to touchdown in the Kraken methan sea. According to our simulations our lander would experience a maximum acceleration of about 15 "g". The difference compared to MERs is caused by differences in masses, cross sections(of heatshield and parachutes), atmospheric densities, and really important the initial atmospheric entry speed(and the ammount of fuel you can use to reduce atmospheric entry speed)

I want that as a car.|||the owner of that car probably blacked out the tail-lights (put a tint over them) many people do that to thier cars but, i think in some states its illegal becuz my friend got pull over for that i think and had to remove it.|||Check out the taillights at CarID.com

How can I remove the stock car stereo and fit a new one in a Rover 220?

I've got a P reg Rover 220 and i want to replace the existing radio/stereo unit with a new kenwood cd player stereo thing. Is this something that's fairly straightforward to do myself? Being a student, I'd rather save myself the cost of getting Halford's to fit it for me...

Can someone please explain to me how I could do this?

Thanks|||If you do that and its a better one than is already fitted in car you will of course double the value of the car .

So instead of being worth 25 pounds it will now be worth 50 pounds.|||if it's a philips stereo there are two holes on the front at each side, you'll need to push either a rivet or nail into each hole to release the stereo (there is a proper tool, but you prob won't have one)

on some of the phillips the holes are under side trims on the stereo face, these will ease off with a small screwdriver (push away from stereo)|||Yes like first peron said, you need a "key" to pop the existing stereo out.

Your new stereo shoul have an ISO block (The wires will have a black connection block to plug into the cars) If this don't plug straight into the block into the cars wiring block, then you would need to buy an adaptor from any good car audio dealer which will plug straight into your cars ISO and your stereos ISO

What kind of alternator will fit in a land rover 1988 model?

The alternator in my land rover discovery 1988 model is getting really hot when I turn the car on and let it run so u think It needs a new one but will any alternator fit or can someone tell me what one or ones will fit

Cheers|||Here is a website that you can get one. It looks like it has to be for year 1987-1992 Land Rover

http://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/DC/285-05072917.html?utm_source=google%26amp;utm_medium=ff%26amp;utm_term=1987-1992+Land+Rover+Range+Rover+Alternator+USA+Industries+A2436+87-92+Land+Rover+Alternator+1988+1989%26amp;utm_content=DN%26amp;utm_campaign=PartsGeek+Google+Base%26amp;fp=pp

I would check your local parts store to see if they have better deals.

As far as any old alternator working (like if you have one laying around from another car) I would also ask your parts store about that and get the model number from the alternator.

To see if the alternator is working correctly.

Disconnect the battery while the vehicle is running. If it shuts off, the alternator is bad. If it keeps going, the alternator is good and there is something else wrong with the vehicle (such as a battery problem).|||This alternator has two wires connected to it. One thick one and one thin one. SO a huge range of basic alternators will fit from ancient 1970s Lucas ACRs to what is it a Bosch? As long as you can get it to bolt on it is a straightforward swap, but used Land rover alternators are cheap and widely avaialbe on Ebay and recons are not that mnuch so it is probably best to get one that is as specified.

Is it smoking hot? Is it hot because it is putting out a lot of charge because your battery is bad? I would not replace it without finding out more.

What would people think if I showed up to college in a brand new range rover?

My Dad is going to be buying me a car to get to and from college (uk college so i'm 17) and he was going to be buying me a range rover but im not too sure whether to or not because people may think im spoilt? what would you say?|||they may..chances are bright.. bt denu'll get the opportunity to make a hell lot of new frens...

How do we recieve a signals from a rover on Mars?

I assume the Mars rover has a small antenna with a low power transmitter. If this is the case how does that signal get reicieved all the way on earth? Is there some sort of satellite relay system? It seems to me that it would be difficult to discern the signal from all the random noise. Maybe some sort of special encoding is used on the signal. I don't know....does anyone know the answer?|||As far as i know both Rovers do only have a UHF transmitter making them incapable sending something directly to earth.

Instead they relay(ed) data through Mars Odyssey, Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Express and possibly the new Reconaissance Orbiter.

if Transmitter Power is limited it needs large antennas to even receive signals from the satellites around mars, due to the fact that it could be on the other side of the sun, from time to time.

Distance and lack of power causing effects of course. So therefore they switch to lower transmission speeds, and use algorithms to be able to reconstruct lost bits in the stream.

This was all considered on planning, so it was decided not to have the rovers transmit directly.

Instead having redundant orbiters to relay which have no problems with sand on their solar-panels.|||Signals to and from the rovers are routed through another satellite orbiting Mars.|||Through Satellite|||They do relay through other space craft orbiting Mars, but I think the rovers don't need to relay; they can contact Earth directly if needed.

Can I put BIOFUEL into my diesel Land Rover Discovery 2005?

I've asked the Land Rover dealers and they don't know enough to say one way or another. I'd really like to do my bit for the environment but obviously don't want to ruin my car. Anyone know any more facts about it?|||There is people who specialise in it. But it would have to be conferted for bio-diesel|||I agree with ndicki - contact rover for the best answer, but...

Most modern diesels can run on biodiesel. The engine itself works the same, the old concern was with the rubber fuel lines and other rubber parts. Biodiesel is a stronger solvent and melts these parts, but this has only been a concern for older cars. These older cars needed to have fuel lines swapped out to be able to run biodiesel BUT NO OTHER CONVERSION. Meanwhile, many who use biodiesel consider it a better fuel for the engine as it has greater lubricity. If you switch to biodiesel, it will clean old petroleum gum from your fuel lines leading to the need to replace your fuel filter after a few tanks of bioD. After that, you should be fine with your regular maintainance schedule.

Good luck

2003 VW Golf TDI running on 100% bioD

43 mpg overall, 51 mpg on long trips ;-)|||Contact Land Rover UK directly. They are the only ones qualified to give the correct answer, and if someone else tells you otherwise, just wonder whether believing him is worth the risk of having to buy a new engine.

I had a similar dilemma with my Octavia, and contacted Skoda Germany directly. If Lannie UK don't know, the Germans certainly will - biodiesel/biofuels are a big thing over there.

Incidentally, the new generation of VW TDi engines DO NOT take biodiesel, although the previous ones did. I used even to run my old TDi90 Octy on 70% chip oil/30% mineral diesel with no ill effects. It depends essentially on injection pressures, etc.

Interesting that the car manufacturers have been forced to take a step backwards by the Euro 4 regulations - which aim to preserve the environment. EU logic again.|||How about running a less thirsty car as well? Discoveries aren't the most frugal of cars, are they?|||Says on page 118 of my handbook for my '04 Discovery 'This vehicle is NOT compatible with 'Bio-Diesel' fuel'. I would go with that. Ignore Michael C's answer, he's obviously an anti 4X4 twerp, who can't be bothered to get his facts right.

How do I recognise the horns on a Rover 45 car?

I want to disconnect the horns on my Rover 45 Impression as the alarm keeps going off intermittently.|||illegal

its an offence not to have a working horn

your best off disconnecting the alarm itself|||its illegal not to have horns working on a car that is used on the road|||Agreed, disconnect the alarm, not the horns. They are a legal requirement, the alarm isn't.|||its proberly a seperate horn from the actual car horn why dont you activate the alarm and listen where the noise is comming from, they're usually confided in the boot behind the trim somewhere. if it was on the hooter under the bonnet the thief could just pull the wires out from the hooter.it will definately be another hooter trumpet to the cars hooter

... once countries like america stop driving 6 litre engines, then I will have an opinion on the carbon emissions of others|||there is absolutely no point in buying a huge chelsea tractor to go through a small village to drop off your 5 year old child and ending up scratching the bloody car and only to find that you've wasted enough petrol trying to do a '3' point turn down a road you can hardly fit to fill up 3 small cars. Why he hell would you buy one, they are a waste of money, you dont need one, buy a car you can actually judge the width of instead of driving in the middle of the road incase you hit the curb. i understand if you are a farmer and you're transporting horses or cows or something, but not a range rover to go to tesco's with to buy a few magazines. it's insane!! there i had my rant... 卢_卢|||3 of my friends drive Range Rovers, I see them as just a car, and they get the kids to school - Just like all the other mums and dads etc etc

Is it possible to put tyres from an escort onto a rover?

My mother in law doesnt have access to the internet so has asked me to find out on here. So she has an escourt that is basically just sitting there broken and has a Rover that needs a new tyre.

Is it possible for her to take the tyre off the escort and put it on her Rover?|||look at tire size is on side of tire if they same sure no problem

Why are the Mars Rover pictures in black and white?

Why are all the raw Spirit and Opportunity rover pics in black and white? You would think with modern technology (the rovers launched in 2004) they would transmit color pics. So why do it in B%26amp;W?|||Most pictures (whether these are or not) taken from space craft are imaged with high quality monochrome sensors through various filters - if done through red/blue/green, etc., this allows producing color images, but it also allows doing UV and other influences. A monochrome sensor can have a much higher pixel count than a color sensor where not only is everything divided by three but there is more space in between sensor pixels.|||Actually ALL images, whether film or digital, are in black and white. In all photo and video processes three or more images made with different coloured filters are combined. Colour film is actually a sandwich of three photographic emulsions and two filters; colour video breaks images up into RGB channels. The images obtained from the rovers are made with much higher standards of filters than ordinary colour images, since they must be studied for scientific purposes. Some of these images are combined with very careful colour balance to get an accurate representation of the colours of the Martian surface and sky.

I'm amazed that most people are totally ignorant of how ALL colour imaging works!|||A lot of the images ARE in color.

Spirit and Opportunity carried multiple cameras. The color cameras were more cumbersome and used only when a rover had the opportunity (no pun intended) to sit still and take the time to get a nice panorama of the surrounding area. The B%26amp;W cameras were easier to use and therefore used more frequently to get data for navigation of the rover.|||They are in colour, well maybe the top quality images are in colour and the 'average' images are black and white to save internal memory fo the future|||taking scientific pictures means using a high-quality sensor that responds to all wavelengths of light, then shooting pictures through filters that select the wavelength you want.

pretty pictures are a by-product. science comes first.|||There NOT in Black and White. The ones I saw were in full color.

How much does it cost in the UK to fill up a Range Rover Vogue?

How can I save money at the age of 12 for a Range Rover HSE?

I want to know how to save my money to buy a Range Rover HSE, without having to worry about not having enough money for a car.|||start saving now and buy the time your ready to buy, you'll have learned that Rovers are unreliable.|||well,

First, Range Rover runs on Normal Gas.. not Diesel

Second, You need to understand that Range Rover HSE worth $77,000 to $91,000. That's the MSRP only. if you add Insurance, Gas, Oil %26amp; filter change, etc... it'll cost more than

$100,000. So what my suggestion to you is don't stop dreaming, take all your money, call a stock broker, tell him your story, he'll buy U some stocks and all that. THEN, you will get, depending on how much do U have right now, a yearly profit on what you invested with your money.

OR

U can you can start working right now. For example:-

if U work for a $7/Hour for 7 hours

7x7= $ 14/ day

14 x 22( 30 days - 8 days" you don't want to work on weekends")

14 x 22 = $308/ month

308 x 12 = $3696 / year

So lets say you want a Range Rover by the age of 21

3696 x 9 = $33246 ....... opps... looks like Range Rover HSE is above your level.... sorry kid

-----------------------------

EDIT :

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh I'M SOOOOOO SOOOOOORRRRRYYYYY I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE .... I'M REALY REALY REALY SORRY DUDE.....

THANK YOU **((( mbar3 ))))** FOR CORRECTING ME ...... HOW COULD I MISS THAT ????

ANYWAYS ,,,,, LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN GET A RANGE ROVER AFTER ALL HUH ????|||7*7 is not 14 its 49.

7x7= $ 49/ day

49 x 22( 30 days - 8 days" you don't want to work on weekends")

49 x 22 = $1078/ month

1078 x 12 = $12,936 / year

So lets say you want a Range Rover by the age of 21

12,936 x 9 = $116,424 ....... opps... looks like Range Rover HSE is possible if you save every dollar you make for the next 9 years!!!|||Every dime you make would go into the Range Rover. you should always save 10% of your money to a savings account.....if you can have a little fun on the side and yet save

it will take time though depending on how much you save...|||save ur money probably like 200 a year. then when u turn 14 get a nice job at a restaurant that pays tips. then start a savings account with only about 15-20 percent of ur money but dont use it. trust me im 14 and its working pretty good for me.|||Kid, you'll need $78,000, not to mention the gas, insurance, and unavoidable massive amounts of maintenance.

Is the cost high to maintain a 2011 Land Rover LR4?

I am currently thinking about buying a 2011 Land Rover LR4. The sales rep told me that you only have to do oil changes once a year. However, some previous Land Rover customers are telling me that the maintance is very costly and would not buy it. Most of them are selling their trucks.

Can someone give me the prices and yearly costs.|||I wouldn't buy a hat from a Land Rover.

You will probably need a new engine every year, at about $10k a piece|||the maintenance for any new vehicle depends of the miles you run the oil change should be done between 3,000to 4,000 miles so, do the math of how many miles would you drive. Average yearly use is 10,000 so the approximate price would be $ 100.00 if you do it, and double if taken to the dealer or probably more cars need other fluids and also consider brakes that would cost you between $200 to $300 if done on time.|||cost of maintenance is very high, not only is the car prone to many malfunctions, parts are expensive to replace as well as repairs. Changing oil is the same for any car, depending on the type of synthetic oil used, and how much you drive, you may only have to change it a few times. Tires are also expensive for the car, would not recommend it.|||Landrover/Range Rover is now no longer owned by Ford, and has been sold to the Indians, same as Jaguar.

They will therefore now cost what their new masters dictate.

Is there anywhere in the country I can get a cheaper Land Rover key made?|||Nope, has to be done at the dealer, they use a special unit to program the key and only dealers have it. Is it possible to land a rover on the surface of Venus?

It would be nice to send a rover to Venus and have it sent back pics like the rovers in Mars. But is it possible yet? I know that Venus is literally HELL so it would have to be an extremely tough rover.|||Actually the Russians have already sent probes to Venus. The first probe that landed on Venus was the Venera 4 on 1967. Although most were destroyed due to the immense pressure and heat.

Search up the Venera 4, Venera 5, Venera 6, Venera 7, ect.|||with the atmospheric pressure, yes. it is not impossible. nothing is. stick a black hole generator onto a ship and it will go the speed of light.(dangerous though) . the technology would have to be pretty advanced though|||The Russians did sent a probe called Venera which landed on Venus. However it was not mobile, and it died rather quickly from the high temperatures.|||Yes, but it would be pretty futile: The rover wouldn't last more than two hours in the best case, so the mobility wouldn't be exploited well. Even if you can do a quick start, you couldn't travel more than 2 kilometers before overheating, without any science being done, and with the motors of the motive system additionally overheating you.

The best research tool on Venus would actually be a blimp or zeppelin, since the dense atmosphere would make this easier.|||The Russian venera spacecraft were not rovers, just landers and none of them

lasted more than about an hour. Eventually, technology will probably

overcome the hurdles of temperature and pressure and give us a clearer

picture of what the surface of Venus is like but that day is pretty far off right now.|||A number of stationary soft-landed surface probes have already been sent to Venus and have returned valuable surface condition data. No rover has yet been sent. The harsh conditions on the Venus surface make it very challenging to engineer a surface vehicle (stationary or mobile) with a duration longer than about 30 minutes.|||They already have.

What should I sell my Land Rover tires and rims for?

I have 4 Land Rover Discovery Tires and Rims that are in good condition, I am just missing the bolts. When I had performance tires put on, they "forgot" to give them back to me. I don't have the LR anymore and need to get rid of these spare tires. What can I sell them for? Should I take them somewhere?|||Sell your rims either on craiglist.org and/or ebay.com. Craigslist.org is a good site because you can post for free and it stays up there for 45 days (or longer as long as you keep re-posting) and it is easy to edit your post anytime.

I have searched craigslist for rims before. Most people on there sell rims that are in good shape with good tires for around 300-600 bucks. If I were you I would start out at 600 bucks and if nobody responds in a certain amount of time lower the price (I wouldn't go any lower than 300 bucks). Good Luck.

a friend borrowed a friends land rover and she ran out of gas. after putting gas in it the thing wouldnt start. now she is being blamed for it needing a new fuel pump because of running out of gas once. its about a 2000 land rover.|||omg yes dont do it. Its gonna cost like 800 i did this to my 2000 oldsmobile it sucked its like the car locked on me. Good luck and remember dont let 30 dollars in gas turn into 800 dollars on a new pump|||Sure can, doesnt automatically happen, but yes, low fuel can cause fuel pump troubles.|||When the rotors in the pump are run dry, they wear out very quickly. The problem is made worse if the driver tries to restart the car numerous times - each attempted restart activates the pump which continues to run dry while the engine is turning over.

Most fuel injected vehicles' fuel gages are calibrated to allow a small amount of fuel to remain in the tank when the gage reads empty - obviously, if a driver continues to drive the vehicle with the gage reading empty, eventually it will indeed run out of fuel.|||Yes, but it is a 8 year old vehicle and it could have failed at any time anyway. It was probably on its last legs and she just pushed it over the edge by running the tank dry and overheating the pump. It could have happened to anyone else who happened to be driving the vehicle. Did the owner perform proper maintenance on the vehicle such as fuel filters every 50000 miles?

Would I make her pay for it? Nope.

on a side note, maybe its time for a new friend.|||I don't know about a fuel pump but if you run out of gas too many times it could cause you to need a new gas tank. There's some sort of cup in the tank that fills with gas and if it drys out too many times it can crack or break away from the rest of the tank.

That cup is needed to help get gas through the lines. Sorry I don't know all the terminology. I'd ask your friend that owns the car if they ever ran out of gas before. But I'd certainly have a mechanic look at it before I handed any money over to that person.

How do you disconnect the start up buzzer on a range rover?

I have a 2001 4.2 V8 HSE range rover. When it starts up it goes through its motions of the air suspension tests. There is a buzzer that accompanies it which does my head in. Can it be silenced?.|||Easy way to silence it is to fix the problem that is causing it.|||"It does your head in"...... It's a safety feature to prevent you driving away with faulty suspension. If you do manage to disconnect it, and subsequently are involved in an accident, you may well find you have voided any insurance you have taken out. I strongly advise against it.

It would have been doing it when you bought the vehicle, so why did you buy it? Perhaps you didn't realise what a low tolerance threshold you have.|||take the fuse out
