What are some good preformance upgrade to do for a land rover discovery 1?

i'm trying to find out what are some good engine preformance parts to buy for 98 land rover disco 1

my rover is a bit slugish on the hills so i need to find a way to give some more power! turbochargers, cam upgrades whatever.|||First off buy a second Land Rover so you will have an adequate parts supply. These vehicles do not lend themselves to very many high performance upgrades. Things will fall apart rapidly on them.

Best bang for buck is an engine swap to a domestic American made v-8. Parts are more readily available and easier to upgrade.|||Trade it in on a Ford 4 wheel drive F-150.....

I'm thinking about buying a range rover for someone and I wanted to know if it was worth my money ?

It is a 2006 Range Rover I wanted to know if it was worth my money and time? What do you guys think about its overall performance do you think that it is reliable. What about the Off-Road performance? Am I making a good idea?|||They are wonderful off road. Maybe the most capable car you can buy.

They are also terribly unreliable and very expensive to repair. You had better have a lot of $$$ to keep it maintained.|||unless your wealthy or a mechanic not worth it

too many other good vehicles for far less money, Nissan Xterra, Toyota 4Runner

"Finally, one cannot ignore the Land Rover's reputation as a mechanical liability. . . . in the past the Range Rover has been one of the lowest-ranked vehicles in terms of reliability -- any of the other choices are likely to cause fewer headaches." -- Edmunds

Why do so many girls like me now because i drive a Range Rover?

Never got this much attention before! They never seemed to pay attention to me when i was catching the bus! I got a Range Rover for my graduation and know it seems like i'm just the most popular kid ever! How can i tell these stuck-up whores to leave me alone! I dont want to give them a ride.|||Keep the doors locked...

What year Land Rover/Range Rover should i get if i'm going to get one?

My Fiancee and i are looking for a land rover discovery or Range Rover for our new SUV and we've hear there are problems with some models. Any information on which year and model is the best? any suggestions for other affordable and reliable SUV's other than Land Rover?|||C7S, find something else to do.

If I were going to get a Discovery Series I, I'd get either a 1994 or a 1999.

Discovery Series II, I'd go with a 2004.

If I wanted a Range Rover, I'd go with a 1988 or a 1995 SWB.

They don't have a lot of problems, they simply require actual maintenance. People don't do it because they are ignorant and lazy, end of story. There are only two real issues that Rovers have.

One is the occasional fault in the ABS system, which doesn't really affect anything at all other than the idiot light on the dashboard. People generally just ignore it, as the braking performance is unaffected aside from the occasional lack of ABS. This occurs on the Discovery II from 1999-2004. Generally, by the time it happens, you would have been through two normal cars, though, so people need to get over it.

The other issue is the air suspension on the P38 model Range Rovers. It will leak eventually. Just replace the air springs with coil springs, and you are done. The coil springs come in a kit that any idiot with a Sears nearby can install in a couple of hours or so. Again, by the time this happens, any other vehicle would be a basket case, so it is absolutely nothing to worry about.

People buy a 12 year old Range Rover with 170,000 miles on it and complain when they need to replace the factory installed shocks and springs. If you bought a Chevrolet like that...

My Discovery II has been on almost every major trail in America, with possibly weeks of cumulative idle time. It has been bashed on rocks, drowned, actually raced a couple of times, and really put through the ringer. A stunt driving scene for a movie was filmed with a car in tow on a trailer behind it. I've pulled tractors out of muddy ravines with it, and I've provided support and relief DURING hurricanes with it, pulling many cars and their drivers out of deep water. During my time overseas, it has spent months sitting in wait for my return.

The thing is still my daily driver. It still does all this stuff. It still does it just like I bought it yesterday. If the thing wants to flash an ABS idiot light at me on occasion, it has earned it.

You cannot use any other vehicle like this. Here is the best part. I know countless others that use their Rovers in the same manner. One day, they are filming a documentary a weeks drive into the bush. Another day, they are just grabbing milk from the grocery store.

If you want a Land Rover, just go get one. Like anything, make sure it has been maintained properly.|||Sorry, but no matter what year you get, it will break down every month.

Requires premium fuel. Averages 15mpg.

Poor interior quality(wood trim falls off easily or surfaces scratch easy)

It feels like a cheaply made car that costs as much as a Porsche.|||The Mk2 (1998) Range Rover has some problems with its air suspension.. I think you're better off with a Defender.

Why did NASA decide on one big rover instead of 2 smaller ones?

The Mars Science Lab is $1.2 billion and climbing while the MER's were about $400M each and provided coverage in two locations. Why did NASA choose to do one big rover instead of two smaller ones (that probably could have stayed on schedule) ?|||They already have the two there, like you said? They probably want to save money, I mean they COULD build two smaller, less sophisticaed ones, but this one will be like a... SUPER ROVER... heh, and I don't really think they need many rovers on mars, at least for now.|||I think it's because they needed to have one that could rove further and be independent of solar power (it will have an RTG). They probably just couldn't afford two of them.|||in addition to the above points - it's also cheaper to have one than two because it does not take multiple launches and space craft to get them there. One big rover also allows you to specialize the mission or have a rover that's more multifunctional|||Probably a better question is why they launched two MERs in 2003, rather than one. They did because they could. They had built two rovers and had two rockets capable of launching them. Because they'd had such bad luck with Mars exploration, they decided to go with redundancy. You can read all about it in Steve Squyres' book, Roving Mars.

Never got this much attention before! They never seemed to pay attention to me when i was catching the bus! I got a Range Rover for my graduation and know it seems like i'm just the most popular kid ever! How can i tell these stuck-up whores to leave me alone! I dont want to give them a ride.|||They are in love with the Range Rover, i would suggest that you be yourself and act like yourself so they can see that its not the car that makes you cool it is the way you really are what makes you an interesting guy.|||When they see you in the range rover they see $$ signs. Then they'll think if they were your gf and you fell in love you'd buy them a diamond ring. Plus they'd like a ride to go shopping lol|||Alot of celebs have rangerovers. Its a sign of luxuary and class.|||a real man wouldn't act like that, it's all in your head...

your situation changed therefore your perception changed....|||Hang balls from the tow thingy

What is the difference between a Range Rover and a hedgehog?

In a Range Rover the pricks are on the inside.

XD|||Ohmygosh, that was hilarious!!!.|||i like this, but the real joke to this is

a police car and a porcupine, with a porcupine the pricks are on the outside,

seeing as this is 1 of my fav jokes, i shall star you.|||Nice one, thanks for that joke!|||that was funni lmao|||the best joke of 2009
